Retrofit Cathodic Protection Systems | Deepwater Corrosion Services
Sacrificial anode and impressed current CP systems for life extension of marine and offshore assets.
Deepwater cathodic protection systems reduce corrosion on submerged and splash zone steel by supplying protective current so the asset behaves as the cathode, slowing the electrochemical reactions that drive metal loss. The systems support both primary CP approaches, sacrificial anode cathodic protection using consumable anodes such as aluminium, zinc or magnesium and impressed current cathodic protection using an external power source and inert anodes, with the selection driven by asset size, coating condition, resistivity of the environment and life extension targets. For practical delivery, the portfolio includes rapidly deployable retrofittable anode systems, connection hardware designed for diver or ROV installation and monitoring and engineering services so the CP performance can be verified and managed over time.
Key Advantages:
Retrofittable Designs for Ageing Infrastructure
Purpose-built CP systems like RetroPod, RetroBuoy and RetroSled allow installation on operational platforms, FPSOs, subsea pipelines and other offshore structures without shutdown or major intervention.
Modelling through real data for retrofitting where design codes are absent
Unlike new builds, retrofit CP lacks standardized design codes. Deepwater’s decades of experience and real world data collection facilitates custom solutions modelled using real-world data and site conditions.
Clamp-On or Mat-Based Options for Challenging Areas
Solutions like RetroClamp and RetroMat allow for localized protection where welding, cutting or clamping is impractical.
Monitoring-Ready Systems
Integrates seamlessly with Deepwater’s subsea monitoring instruments (MA-1, DR-2, Recap Logger), allowing BP to track CP performance without relying solely on diver or ROV inspections.
Award-Winning Field Performance
Deepwater’s systems have protected FPSOs, deepwater platforms, subsea assets, docks and renewables worldwide including 21,000 Amps deployed for the SYU platforms and life-extension retrofits for Triton FPSO in the North Sea and Gulf of Mexico assets.
